The Keg Spirit Foundation

The Keg Spirit Foundation continues The Keg’s history of working with communities to support children and youth across different charities and programs.

For The Community

The Keg Spirit Foundation was established in 2001 to commemorate The Keg’s 30th anniversary and its history of charitable giving. The creation of the Foundation provided a vehicle to consolidate existing charitable activities while focusing on new ways to give back to local Keg communities.

While the Foundation concentrates on supporting charities that focus on the development of youth, its specific goal is to recognize organizations that mirror the mentorship that The Keg has provided to so many young people. To date, The Keg Spirit Foundation has raised more than $11 million for over 300 charities across North America.

50 Years, 50 Reasons to Give Back

To celebrate The Keg's 50th anniversary, giving back to local communities was a key priority of the campaign. $1 from every entree purchased from the 50th anniversary menu was donated to The Keg Spirit Foundation. These proceeds were collected to benefit youth and mentorship causes in local communities from coast to coast across Canada & the USA. Our Keg employees had the opportunity to reserach and nominate various organizations. As a result, fifty charities were selected and awarded $5,000 each to advance work and efforts for their respective causes.

Charities Supported

To date, The Keg Spirit Foundation has contributed more than $1.8 million to BBBS of Canada. Local BBBS chapters in all of our U.S. markets have also received annual support since our inception.

Other national charities that have been supported include the Ladybug Foundation Education Program, Outward Bound and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Grants have been issued to more than 300 local charities. For a complete list of charities supported, please contact us.

The Foundation's Chairman's Award

The Foundation’s Chairman’s Award is a celebration of those who are at the heart of the company — our staff. The award recognizes four Keg employees who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to their communities.

Recognized at The Keg’s senior manager conferences, each winner directs $5,000 to the charity of their choice through The Keg Spirit Foundation. Over the years, this program has empowered Keg staff to direct more than $180,000 in Canada, and $55,000 in the U.S. to charities that they support.

Donate

It takes a community to support The Keg Spirit Foundation initiatives. We need the help of all our Keggers and our guests to make a difference. Donate today to help support national and local charities that contribute to the evolution and growth of youth across North America

Funding

Funding for The Keg Spirit Foundation is raised through a variety of ways including: company-wide promotions, the sale of Keg branded products at retailers across Canada, and local store fundraising initiatives.

Since the Foundation was established, there have been many inspiring stories of Keggers making a difference by giving their time, energy, and enthusiasm to worthwhile causes.

Our support goes beyond dollars. Keg employees are encouraged to donate their time and energy to local initiatives that benefit their communities. Whether they are participating in local charity walks, filling the storerooms of emergency shelters, or providing special dinners for families in need, Keg staff come together in a variety of ways to help their communities.

Apply For a Grant

The Keg Spirit Foundation considers funding for projects based on the following criteria:

  • The organization must hold, in good standing, a current charity registration number.
  • The project must relate to children or youth in some way.
  • The program should contain a mentoring component.

When funding allows (the majority of funding goes to our larger partnerships each year), The Keg Spirit Foundation will make grants to successful applicants; typically, in the range of $2,000 to $5,000. The application has two stages: an initial Letter of Interest, which if invited, is followed by a full proposal.

The initial Letter of Interest is limited to one page and should include:

  • A description of the organization and indication of competence in the area of this proposal.
  • An outline of the project including: a) Who it will benefit b) Design of the project c) Outcomes expected.
  • A brief (2 or 3 lines) overview of your budget, income sources, and expenses for this project.

Letters of Interest may be submitted throughout the year and are reviewed on an ongoing basis. If chosen for further consideration, you will be invited to submit a full proposal and a more detailed application. Please note that funding decisions are traditionally made in the first quarter of the year based on the prior year’s proposals.

The Keg Spirit Foundation does not award grants to:

  • Individuals
  • Projects outside of our market areas
  • Reduction of deficits
  • Religious or political causes
  • Sponsorships
  • Conferences
  • Memberships

Please email or send all applications to The Keg Spirit Foundation at the address below. Please note that we request complete written information, as we will evaluate all proposals based on the information provided.

Respectfully, we request that correspondence be via mail or email.
